Why do I have less creditable service than my co-worker when I started working before he/she did?

A:  The Falmouth Retirement System pro-rates creditable service for those members-in-service who work less than full-time.

Example:

James has worked forty hours per week for ten years; James has accrued ten years of creditable service towards his retirement.  His colleague, Mary, has worked twenty hours per week for twenty years; Mary has accrued ten years of creditable service.

Although Mary has worked for twenty years, her service is pro-rated because she works twenty hours per week.
